Well for my first post I figured I would tell you who I am and What I am going to be writing about in this blog. My name is Josh Powell, I live in Natural Bridge Station, VA. I have a wonderful girlfriend, Jennifer, that I have been dating for almost 2 years. She means the world to me and supports me in everything that I do. I couldn't love her anymore if I tried.
I started playing the guitar about 6 years ago. I started off playing bluegrass but it didn't take long before I wanted to learn how to actually "rock out" so that's when I started teaching myself how to play some of my favorite rock songs. I haven't really ever taken any lessons.... maybe a few here and there, but I pretty much taught myself everything I know.
I first got interested in building guitars a couple years back. I remember falling in love with Brad Paisleys telecaster that almost looked like water and thought "Man, I would love to have on of those!" Then I found out what it cost! So I decided that the only way I would ever be able to own one is if I created it. So that's when it all began. I have uploaded a few pictures of a couple of the guitars that I have built. The blue one is my take on Brad's "water guitar". I built it by hand and found a cool water like fabric and did some paint fading on it.... added a custom made (by me) plexi-glass pick guard and......BOOM! You can see my results below. Not too bad considering it was my first guitar build.
That is what the purpose of this blog is going to be. Over the next few weeks I am going to build another guitar from start to finish and describe (with words and pictures) what's going on. I hope you join me on my adventure! Until next time, ROCK ON!
